Scouting America Troop 721

River Hawk District, Baltimore Area Council

About Our Troop

We are a small Troop of diverse individuals, and our focus is on having fun in Scouting. Our small size and experienced adult leaders enable our Scouts to have more of a voice in what they want from their individual Scouting journey.

Troop 721 has almost as many active adult leaders as youth. Most of our adult leaders have undergone significant training, such as IOLS, and have completed the Course for the Wood Badge. Our Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Committee Members have been a part of Scouting in River Hawk District for many years and are qualified as counselors for a wide range of Merit Badges.

Advancement is Scout-Paced

We encourage our Scouts to experience all aspects of Scouting – including advancement – at their own pace. We provide training and support to allow our Scouts to advance in rank but we do not pressure them to achieve ranks or other milestones on a set schedule. We believe that our approach helps our Scouts to stay engaged and excited about Scouting without feeling pressured to “check a box.”

A Scout is Friendly

Troop 721 embraces diversity of all kinds and is particularly receptive to Scouts who are disabled, neurodivergent, or LGBTQ+. Our older Scouts and adult leaders are experienced in working with Scouts on the autism spectrum, with ADHD, and with learning disabilities. We encourage our Scouts to express their individuality and celebrate the differences that make us all unique and special.

A Scout is Thrifty

For the last several years, Troop 721 has been able to cover annual registration fees for all of our Scouts and adult leaders through fundraising activities. In addition, we are well-equipped with camping gear which all members are welcome to use if they need it. By allowing scouts to fund their experience through their own work, we reinforce the Scout Law and open up opportunities for everyone to participate regardless of their personal financial circumstances.

Bigger Isn’t Always Better

Currently Troop 721 has seven Scouts returning for 2026. If your Scout is more comfortable with smaller groups or you are just looking for a Troop that can offer more individual attention to your Scout, then Troop 721 is a great fit!
